Capturing December - Wrapping paper

And lest you think I'm kidding, here's a whole blog post about our use of catalogs and newsprint for wrapping paper ;).

  1. I would be very happy to receive gifts wrapped in newspaper or catalogues, and have seen some fantastic gift bags made from newspaper.

The problem is that I don't subscribe to any magazines or catalogues and we no longer even get a free advertising newspaper through the door (they went bust with the recession). Newspaper is like gold dust in our house.

So I use wrapping paper to wrap gifts, but I do hate buying things to be thrown away. I will try keeping my wrapping paper to use as newspaper instead :)

Also we have a Christmas tradition of sealing up the door to the living room with wrapping paper, so on Christmas day the kids get to burst through the door to find their presents under the tree. They love it so much that I can't feel too bad about using a bit of cheap wrapping paper to make them happy.

  2. @ Judy - I love that tradition of breaking through the wrapping paper! It sounds like a lot of fun!

There are a lot of free community-based newspapers in my area. Seems like every town has its own. When we're out, we usually try to pick up a couple of them - during this season and during the spring when we're brooding chickens. Gold dust ... indeed!
