I saw this and thought about the food banks and soup kitchens that rely on farm surplus it is going to be a tough autumn. I am already thinking that I will have to supplement some of my garden crops/ home preserved food with food purchased at the farmers market.
It is very scary...
I put copper on my spuds to save them from blight but it has rained again and now I will have to apply more (18.00 a bag) ...ouch!
I'm growing roots, both figuratively and literally, in the suburbs of southern Maine with Deus Ex Machina, our great kids, a flock of suburban chickens, some whacky ducks, and a herd of rabbits.
In this eminently practical and thoughtful book, Wendy Brown takes on the challenge of exploring the options for surviving and thriving through hard times in the suburbs, and carries it off with aplomp. Highly recommended!
"Don't focus on limitations. Imagine possibilities." ~~Wendy
A THRIVALIST IS ...
... what you get when you cross a survivalist with a optimistic realist ... who likes to grow things ;).

If you missed reading the classics when you were in school, this is a good opportunity to get a free copy to read.

Too bad we couldn't distribute rain a bit more evenly. I would LOVE to have some of that rain....in June we got only a half inch.....
That is bad news!
